The Huaorani people have inhabited the headwaters of the Amazon for millennia. They have lived as hunters and gatherers, entirely without contact from outsiders right up until the end of the 1950s. Indeed, at least one Huaorani clan continues to shun all contact with the outside world, the Tagaeri. Numbering approximately 1,200 individuals, the Huaorani continue to maintain a largely traditional lifestyle, living from the rainforest, although missionaries and oil companies have had some influence.More Info
